  1. Ideal World vs. Real World Arm Care By: Gunnar Thompson, NASM-CPT, PES, CPPS

I want to provide some feedback and tips that I have learned from my time as a pitcher.  To provide a little more information about myself, I was an undersized individual with the heart and will to do whatever it took to succeed. I cannot tell you how many times I was told that I was not big enough to...
  2. Throwing Weighted Dogs Can Increase Velocity! Wait… What? - by Randy Sullivan

Seems the rage these days is about these new weighted ball things and how they increase velocity. Funny… When we started using weighted balls as part of our process in 2009, in my community you would have thought I was Jack the Ripper! Naysayers unfairly blasted me privately, and publicly to the point that I finally gave in and stopped using them for a few months. I soon came to the realization that critics will be critics and accepting their slings and arrows is simply the price I must pay for the privilege of working with all the fine young men in my care. 3. 3 Questions About Weighted Ball Training - By Randy Sullivan

Not a day goes by that I don’t get a flurry of questions about the “latest rage”… weighted baseballs (ironic that the “latest rage” began nearly 30 years ago). With process development and advocacy from a cadre of progressive thinking instructors and coaches, and support from several high level programs, a  a throwing modality once considered radical is rapidly becoming mainstream. Last winter the Tampa Bay Rays approached me for advice on implementing an off-season weighted ball velocity enhancement program. I was intrigued. Continue reading →
  4. What's Your Goal?

One of the most common interactions I have with coaches and players goes something like this: “Brian, I just got home from the Texas Baseball Ranch (or bought Coach Wolforth’s DVDs) and I am at a loss as to what workouts/drills I should implement and, accordingly, what equipment to buy. Coach Wolforth uses almost all of your equipment at the Ranch (or on the DVD), but we only have a limited amount of time to implement some of the workouts/drills and I don’t know what items are best to purchase. What do you think are the most critical pieces of equipment I should get to help myself/my players? What would you buy if you were just starting out? What was most helpful to you when you were playing?” Continue reading →
  5. How to Achieve a Late Launch

In my last blog I discussed what a late launch is and why it is critical to an efficient delivery. Understanding what is meant by a late release and what it looks like is extremely valuable, but if you don’t know how to train yourself or your pitchers to have it then the knowledge is not very useful. Therefore, this blog will describe a few of the drills that Coach Ron Wolforth uses to teach his athletes at the Texas Baseball Ranch how to achieve a late launch. Continue reading →
  6. Pronation Drills: Why Athletes at the Texas Baseball Ranch are Ahead of the Game

Last year I wrote two articles regarding pronation and the deceleration process of the arm after a pitch is thrown. For those of you who have not read those articles, I will give a brief recap, or for those of you who want to go back and read them, here are the links: August 28th article; September 4 article. 7. TAP Extreme Duty Weighted Balls

We have recently added a new set of weighted balls to our product line and they are generating a lot of buzz with our clients. These new balls, the TAP Extreme Duty weighted balls, are different than any weighted balls we have sold before. Unlike our other weighted ball set, the TAP Standard Duty, the Extreme Duty balls can be used for hitting as well as in a throwing program to develop velocity. The name of this new product is indicative of how durable and virtually indestructible we believe the ball to be. Because of the durable nature of these balls, coaches all over the nation are beginning to utilize them during hitting drills to help increase power and the ability to drive the ball.
