Intro: My name is Brian Oates

I'm going to be writing articles in the coming weeks about a variety of different topics.  Some might be about equipment from Oates Specialties, while other articles may highlight certain coaches', schools', or academies' use of our products and the results they have witnessed.  My purpose for these articles is to connect with you, our clients and prospective clients, so you can learn as well as share your stories about equipment and workout regimens that most benefit your athletes.  Feel free to comment on the articles or anything on your mind.  I want this to be a free flow of information on how to best train our athletes to be as explosive and athletic as possible.  I will also be on twitter as @oatesspecialty, so follow me there to see if I may be in your area during my travels or for other information that I run across.  I will primarily be up and down the east coast this spring visiting with a number of coaches and I would love to meet up and talk baseball or conditioning with anybody interested.

My email is brian@oatesspecialties.com so please email me with any questions, comments, or concerns.  While some of you may know me and my story I'm going to introduce myself to those who don't.

I first began working out with Ron Wolforth, of Pitching Central and The Baseball Ranch, in the Summer of 2002 when I was a junior in high school topping out at 84 miles per hour.  I continued to train with him over the next few years and by my junior year in college I was topping out at 94 mph.  I signed to play in the Seattle Mariners organization after my senior year of college and played professionally until this past summer when I was released.  Although my baseball career is done and I'm applying to law school at the moment, I have a very unique perspective on training athletes, specifically pitchers.  I have been around and intimately involved in the creation of the athletic pitcher and combat pitcher programs developed by Coach Wolforth.  I have worked out in many facets over the years whether it is conventional weight room training, Crossfit, pool work, or pulling tractors on a ranch.  I feel fortunate to be able to draw on these experiences as an athlete when writing articles or talking about workout regimens that may help you or your players perform better in competition.  I'm a very open minded person when it comes to new ideas and programs so please share your thoughts with me.
